Improving a curated shopping experience

Fawn is an e-commerce app that gives users the ability to find curated products and discover new events in their area. Fawn's CEO is passionate about giving an online presence to local businesses while creating a seamless shopping experience for customers. The goal of this project was to give users the ability to find products quickly and address user pain points in order to increase retention and maintain more repeat customers.

Challenge

Fawn needed help growing and retaining a user base by eliminating pain points and streamlining the checkout process. In addition, we needed to simplify how users discovered new products and events in their geographical proximity in order to increase retention.

Take a look at the home feed redesign. I will explain the process and design decisions in a future case study.

Approach

I joined the Fawn design team to analyze user research and determine the main points of that were leading to low user retention. Our team held a design studio workshop to generate ideas and conducted a card sorting exercise with a potential user group. Once we presented our findings to the founder we were able to narrow down our design scope to focus on the homepage feed and the check out flow.

My focus within this project included:

  • Design studio workshop
  • Facilitate a card sorting exercise
  • Ideation and iteration: Lo-fi, Mid-fi
  • High fidelity design focusing on the check out flow
  • Prototype validation

Outcome

The final Fawn redesign incorporated the research done by our team, as well as the CEO's priorities of making the shopping process straightforward and efficient. I validated the prototype with the users and confirmed that users understood that the apps purpose was to discover local goods and that they would have to pick up their purchased items in store.
